Three things stand out. First, the gap between the top and bottom of the table is not a rounding error: the same phone costs 2.4 times as much in Türkiye as in the US. Second, Asia is cheaper than Europe almost across the board: every Asia-Pacific store in the table except India is cheaper than every EU store. Third, every euro country lands within a narrow US$1,680 to US$1,726 band, for reasons explained below.

Pro Max costs US$100 more than Pro in the US, and the step is a round number almost everywhere: £100 in the UK, €150 in the euro countries, ¥20,000 in Japan, RMB 1,000 in China mainland and HK$1,000 in Hong Kong. iPhone Duo starts at US$1,999 before tax in the US; outside the US and Canada, Hong Kong is again the lowest at HK$17,499, about US$2,231, followed by the UAE and Malaysia. In Türkiye, iPhone Duo costs TRY 229,999, about US$4,733.
iPhone Duo pre-orders open on 16 October 2026, so these are Apple’s listed launch prices rather than shelf prices you can pay today. If the Duo is the phone you are pricing up, iPhone Duo vs iPhone 18 Pro Max for travel compares what the extra money buys.

Why the same iPhone costs different amounts
Four forces explain most of the table, and only one of them is Apple deciding a country should pay more.

1. Sales tax is added later in the US and Canada
Apple’s US and Canadian stores list prices before sales tax, which is added at checkout and depends on where you are. Apple’s stores in the UK, Ireland, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Thailand state on the page that their prices include VAT or GST. So the US$1,199 at the top of the table is not directly comparable with a price that already contains 20% VAT.
2. VAT explains the euro-area spread almost exactly
Six euro countries, six prices for the same phone. The spread lines up with each country’s standard VAT rate, as published on the EU’s Your Europe VAT rates page:
| Country | iPhone 18 Pro | iPhone Duo | Standard VAT rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Germany | €1,449 | €2,299 | 19% |
| Spain | €1,469 | €2,339 | 21% |
| France | €1,479 | €2,339 | 20% |
| Netherlands | €1,479 | €2,339 | 21% |
| Ireland | €1,489 | €2,369 | 23% |
| Italy | €1,489 | €2,369 | 22% |
Strip the VAT out and the six iPhone 18 Pro prices land between about €1,211 (Ireland) and €1,232 (France), roughly €22 apart. In other words, Apple charges Germany €40 less than Italy mainly because Germany’s VAT rate is lower, not because German buyers get a discount.
3. The same digits are not the same money
Apple often uses identical price points across currencies. iPhone 18 Pro is £1,199 in the UK, CHF 1,199 in Switzerland and US$1,199 in the US. At ECB reference rates, the pound price is about US$1,620 and the franc price about US$1,471. Round numbers in a local currency say little about value until you convert them.
4. Local pricing and import costs
The biggest outliers, Türkiye and Brazil, sit far above what VAT alone would explain: about 2.4 and 2.0 times the US price. Apple does not publish how it sets prices by country, so we will not guess at the breakdown. What the numbers show is that in those two markets, the premium is structural rather than a matter of a few percentage points.
Cheapest places to buy one with a SIM tray
This is where price and practicality collide. Four of the six cheapest markets in the table, the US, Canada, the UAE and Japan, sell iPhone 18 Pro in an eSIM-only version with no SIM tray. The phone keeps that design wherever you take it. If you need a nano-SIM slot, these are the cheapest Apple stores that sell one:
| Market | iPhone 18 Pro (256 GB) | In US$ | vs US |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hong Kong | HK$10,499 | US$1,339 | +12% |
| Malaysia | RM5,499 | US$1,351 | +13% |
| Switzerland | CHF 1,199 | US$1,471 | +23% |
| Thailand | ฿48,900 | US$1,479 | +23% |
| South Korea | ₩1,990,000 | US$1,482 | +24% |
| New Zealand | NZ$2,549 | US$1,484 | +24% |
Our country-by-country list of which versions have a tray is in does iPhone 18 Pro have a SIM card slot. iPhone Duo has no tray in any market, and a Hong Kong Duo cannot take an eSIM from a mainland China carrier; iPhone Duo in China: mainland vs Hong Kong explains why that matters for mainland buyers.
What extra storage costs around the world
Storage pricing follows the same pattern. The step from 256 GB to 1 TB on iPhone 18 Pro:
| Market | 256 GB | 1 TB | Extra for 1 TB | Extra in US$ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United States | US$1,199 | US$1,799 | US$600 | US$600 |
| United Kingdom | £1,199 | £1,799 | £600 | US$810 |
| Germany | €1,449 | €2,199 | €750 | US$869 |
| Japan | ¥219,800 | ¥324,800 | ¥105,000 | US$682 |
| China mainland | RMB 9,999 | RMB 15,499 | RMB 5,500 | US$820 |
| Hong Kong | HK$10,499 | HK$15,799 | HK$5,300 | US$676 |
| India | ₹164,900 | ₹239,900 | ₹75,000 | US$785 |
| Australia | A$2,099 | A$3,299 | A$1,200 | US$861 |
Is it worth buying an iPhone abroad?
Sometimes. On paper, buying iPhone 18 Pro in Hong Kong rather than Germany saves about US$341, and buying in the US rather than the UK saves about US$421 before US sales tax. Those savings shrink quickly once you count what the table does not show.
- Card and currency fees. Your bank’s exchange rate and foreign transaction fees will be worse than the ECB reference rate used here.
- Tax at home and away. US sales tax is added at checkout. Some countries refund VAT to departing visitors under their own rules, and bringing a phone home can create import duties; check both before counting a saving.
- The SIM version. A cheaper eSIM-only phone is no bargain if your home carrier cannot put your number on an eSIM.
- Carrier lock and bands. Buy unlocked from Apple, and check that the model’s bands suit your home networks.
We go through each of those checks in buying iPhone 18 Pro abroad: 5 checks before you pay. And if you do come home with a new phone, how to transfer your eSIM to iPhone 18 Pro covers moving your number across.
How we compared, and what this cannot tell you
Prices were read from Apple’s online store in each of the 27 markets on 13 September 2026, using the unlocked version where a store also lists carrier models. We cross-checked the US prices against Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro announcement, and the China mainland and Hong Kong iPhone Duo prices against Apple’s regional announcements of 9 September 2026. Exchange rates are the European Central Bank’s euro reference rates of 11 September 2026, crossed through the US dollar. The UAE dirham and Saudi riyal, which the ECB does not publish, use their official US dollar pegs of 3.6725 and 3.75.
Limits: prices and exchange rates move, so these are a snapshot. Markets without an ECB reference rate, such as Taiwan and Vietnam, are not included. We do not adjust for sales tax, VAT refunds, import duty or card fees, and we have not checked whether warranty or returns differ for phones bought abroad. Apple’s store in each country remains the authority on the price you will actually pay.

Frequently asked questions
Where is iPhone 18 Pro cheapest?
The US, at US$1,199 for 256 GB before sales tax. Outside the US and Canada, the lowest Apple store price among the 27 markets we compared is Hong Kong at HK$10,499, about US$1,339, followed by Malaysia at RM5,499 and the UAE at AED 5,099.
Which country has the most expensive iPhone 18 Pro?
Türkiye, at TRY 137,999 for 256 GB, which is about US$2,840 or 2.4 times the US price. Brazil is next at R$11,999, about US$2,348. Both sit far above the European and Asian prices in our comparison.
How much is iPhone 18 Pro in the UK and Europe?
£1,199 in the UK, about US$1,620. In the euro area it ranges from €1,449 in Germany to €1,489 in Ireland and Italy, about US$1,680 to US$1,726. The euro spread mostly follows national VAT rates, which run from 19% in Germany to 23% in Ireland.
How much is iPhone 18 Pro in Japan?
Apple Japan lists iPhone 18 Pro at ¥219,800 for 256 GB, about US$1,427 at the ECB rate of 11 September 2026. That makes Japan one of the cheaper markets, but the Japanese version is eSIM-only and cannot take a physical SIM card anywhere.
Is iPhone Duo cheaper in Hong Kong?
Among the 27 markets we compared, Hong Kong has the lowest iPhone Duo price outside the US and Canada: HK$17,499, about US$2,231. A Hong Kong Duo cannot take an eSIM from a mainland China carrier and has no SIM tray, which matters for mainland buyers.
Why is the iPhone cheaper in the US?
Partly because US prices are listed before sales tax, which is added at checkout, while stores such as the UK, Australia and Singapore state that their prices include VAT or GST. Exchange rates and Apple’s local pricing account for the rest of the gap.
Why does iPhone 18 Pro cost more in Italy than in Germany?
Mostly VAT. Apple lists €1,489 in Italy and €1,449 in Germany; Italy’s standard VAT rate is 22% and Germany’s is 19%. Remove VAT and the two prices are within about €3 of each other.
Is it worth buying an iPhone abroad to save money?
Only after counting card fees, tax at home and abroad, and the SIM version. The US, Canada, Japan and UAE versions are eSIM-only, so the cheapest phone may not suit a home carrier without eSIM. Buy unlocked, and check bands before paying.
Bottom line
If you judge by the sticker, the US is cheapest before tax, Hong Kong and Malaysia are the cheapest stores outside the US and Canada, Europe pays a VAT premium, and Türkiye and Brazil pay the most by a wide margin. But the cheapest version is not always the right one: four of the six lowest prices come with no SIM tray. Price the phone you actually want, with the SIM design you actually need, and count the fees before you count the savings.
