Every one of the 80 plans that cover South Korea in our catalogue connects through SK Telecom. 33 of them add LG U+ as a second network, and only 5 add KT. The nine Korea-only plans all list SK Telecom and LG U+, from $5.00 for 5 GB to $26.88 for 50 GB over 30 days. So the question on a Korea travel eSIM is not really which network, but whether you want one network or two.
You read that SKT has the best signal on the subway, or that a friend’s KT SIM never dropped in Busan, and you search for a Korea eSIM on that network. Plan titles rarely say. The network is listed on each plan page, though, and when we sorted every plan covering Korea by the Korean networks it names, a clear pattern came out. These are the figures on 1 October 2026.
- SK Telecom: on all 80 plans covering South Korea.
- LG U+: on 33 plans, always together with SK Telecom, including all 9 Korea-only plans.
- KT: on 5 plans, all from the Discover Global range that covers 157 countries.
- Hotspot: listed as supported on all 80. None is unlimited, and none includes a Korean phone number.
South Korea’s three mobile networks
South Korea has three mobile network operators: SK Telecom, KT and LG U+. All three run 4G and 5G networks.
Which one is “best” depends on what you measure. Opensignal’s South Korea mobile network report scores the three on reliability, speed, 5G availability and coverage, and the winners differ by category. That is a better guide than a single forum post, and it is updated regularly, so check the latest edition.
A travel eSIM adds one more layer. It is a roaming connection, so it can only use the Korean networks its provider has an agreement with. That list is fixed by the plan, not by you.
Which network each Korea plan uses
All 80 plans covering South Korea, grouped by the Korean networks named in their network table. Prices are from 1 October 2026.
| Korean networks listed | Plans | Examples | Price range |
|---|---|---|---|
| SK Telecom and LG U+ | 33 | All 9 Korea-only plans; South Korea and Japan 10 GB; Asia 12 Countries 10 GB | $5.00 to $26.88 for Korea-only |
| SK Telecom only | 42 | Vietnam Plus 10 GB, 6 countries; Asia 7 Countries 10 GB | $7.80 and $11.00 for these 10 GB plans |
| SK Telecom and KT | 5 | Discover Global 3 GB, 157 countries | $6.60 to $32.26 |

The Korea-only plans are the simplest choice for a Korea-only trip. They run from 5 GB for 30 days at $5.00 and 10 GB for 15 days at $6.20 to 20 GB for 30 days at $10.00 and 50 GB for 30 days at $19.60. Every one lists both SK Telecom and LG U+, so the phone has a second network to fall back on.
Compare all 80 plans: the South Korea eSIM page lists every plan that works in Korea, with filters for data and days. Each plan page names its networks in the Destinations and networks table.
Does the network matter for a traveller?
Less than it would with a local SIM, for three reasons.
- SK Telecom is a constant. Whatever plan you choose from our catalogue, it connects through SK Telecom, so you are not choosing between a strong and a weak network.
- A second network is the real upgrade. On a plan listing SK Telecom and LG U+, the phone can move to the other network if one signal is weak, for example deep in a subway station or on a mountain trail. You can also choose one manually in the phone’s network settings.
- Roaming has its own limits. A travel eSIM’s speed also depends on the provider’s roaming agreement and on how busy the cell is. Two plans on the same network can feel different for that reason.
If you specifically want KT, the Discover Global plans are the only ones in our catalogue that list it, and they are priced for multi-continent trips rather than Korea alone.
Pick a plan by trip
| Your trip | Good fit | Korean networks | Price |

| Korea and Japan | South Korea and Japan 10 GB, 30 days | SK Telecom and LG U+ | $9.00 |

5G, hotspot and IP address
- 5G: 42 of the 80 plans covering Korea list 5G; the rest are 4G LTE. A 5G plan falls back to 4G where 5G is not available, and your phone must support 5G too.
- Hotspot: all 80 plans list hotspot as supported, so you can share data with a laptop or a travel companion. Sharing uses your plan’s data, so size the plan up. Our hotspot audit shows how fast tethering burns through data.
- IP address: most Korea plans route data through Hong Kong, Singapore or the UK, so websites see that country rather than Korea. Maps and messaging do not care. Services that check your location might. See how a travel eSIM changes your IP address.
When a different option is the better choice
- You need a Korean phone number. Every plan covering Korea in our catalogue is data-only. If you need a Korean number for calls or for a service that only accepts Korean numbers, you need a local SIM from a Korean operator. Your home number keeps receiving texts on the phone’s other line either way.
- You want unlimited data. None of the 80 plans was unlimited on 1 October 2026. Our largest Korea-only plan is 50 GB for 30 days.
- You are sharing with a group all day. A pocket Wi-Fi router can suit groups that stay together. Our eSIM vs pocket Wi-Fi comparison covers the trade-offs.
Frequently asked questions
Which network is best for tourists in Korea?
All three operators run 4G and 5G networks, and independent tests rank them differently by category. On a travel eSIM the choice is mostly made for you: every plan covering Korea in our catalogue uses SK Telecom. A plan that adds LG U+ gives you a second network to fall back on.
Does a Korea eSIM use SK Telecom?
All of ours do. On 1 October 2026, all 80 plans covering South Korea listed SK Telecom, and 33 of them also listed LG U+. Each plan page names its networks in the Destinations and networks table, so you can confirm before you buy.
Can I get a KT eSIM for travel?
In our catalogue, KT appears only on the five Discover Global plans, alongside SK Telecom. They cover 157 countries and start at $6.60 for 1 GB over 7 days, so they make most sense for multi-country trips. For Korea alone, the Korea-only plans on SK Telecom and LG U+ cost less.
Does a Korea eSIM include a Korean phone number?
Not ours. All 80 plans covering Korea are data-only, with no Korean number for calls or texts. Calling and messaging apps work over the data, and your home number stays active on the phone’s other line. For a Korean number, buy a local SIM from a Korean operator.
Can I use hotspot with a Korea eSIM?
Yes. All 80 plans covering South Korea in our catalogue list hotspot as supported. Tethering uses the same data allowance, so a laptop can use several gigabytes a day. If you plan to share, choose 20 GB or more for a week or two.
Is there one eSIM for Korea and Japan?
Yes. The South Korea and Japan plan covers both countries with 10 GB for 30 days at $9.00, using SK Telecom and LG U+ in Korea. China Korea Japan plans start at $5.00 for a 5-day short trip, and Asia 12 Countries at $5.00 for 3 GB over 15 days.
With a local SIM, the operator is the decision. With a travel eSIM for Korea, the operator is almost always SK Telecom, so put your energy into the data size, the trip length and whether you want a second network.
