Does a Europe eSIM Work in Turkey? Which Plans Cover Istanbul and the Balkans (2026)

October 26, 2026

Does a Europe eSIM work in Turkey? On 26 October 2026 Code eSIM Europe 41 covered Turkey, Switzerland, the UK and five Balkan countries with 10 GB for 30 days at $8.49; Airalo Eurolink cost $31.00; Holafly and Ubigi Europe plans did not cover Turkey
Istanbul is where many Europe eSIMs stop working.

Only some do. Turkey is not in the EU, so the EU’s roaming rules that most Europe eSIMs are built around do not reach it. On 26 October 2026, Code eSIM’s Europe 41 plan covered Turkey, Switzerland, the UK and the Balkans with 10 GB for 30 days at $8.49, and Airalo’s Eurolink covered the same mix at $31.00. Holafly’s and Ubigi’s Europe plans did not include Turkey, and neither did our cheaper Europe 33.

The same gap catches people in Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia. If your trip ends in Istanbul, starts on a Greek island and crosses to Bodrum, or drives down the Adriatic coast, check the country list before you buy. Here is how the main Europe plans compare, plan by plan.

Two things stand out. Europe 41 is the only plan here that covers Turkey and all five Balkan countries at under $10 for 10 GB. And if your route is the EU and Turkey but not the Balkans, eSIMGo’s Europe plan at $7.54 covers Turkey too, for a little less.

Routes that cross the line

  • Greek islands and the Turkish coast. Ferries run from Kos to Bodrum and from Rhodes to Marmaris. Europe 41 and eSIMGo Europe both cover Greece and Turkey on one eSIM.
  • Bulgaria or Romania to Istanbul. The same two plans cover the drive or the overnight train.
  • Croatia, Montenegro, Albania. Croatia is in the EU; the next two are not. Europe 41 covers all three, as does Sparks’ Balkans Special, $12.80 for 10 GB across 40 countries.
  • Belgrade, Sarajevo, Skopje. Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia are on Europe 41 and Balkans Special, but not on eSIMGo Europe or Europe 33.
  • Turkey only. A single-country plan is cheaper: 10 GB for 30 days costs $6.45. Our guide to Turkish networks compares the Turkey plans.
Europe eSIM coverage of Turkey on 26 October 2026: Code eSIM Europe 41 yes, $8.49 for 10 GB; eSIMGo Europe yes, $7.54; Code eSIM Europe 33 no, $6.99; Airalo Eurolink yes, $31.00; Ubigi Europe no; Holafly Europe no
Same continent, different country lists.

Three gaps worth knowing

Poland. Europe 33 and Europe 41 route your data through Poland, but Poland itself is not on their country lists. If Poland is on your route, choose a plan that lists it, such as eSIMGo Europe or Airalo’s Eurolink.

Kosovo. None of our Europe plans lists Kosovo, and nor does Eurolink. For Kosovo, our Airalo Kosovo plans start at $5.75 for 1 GB over 7 days, or use a global plan.

Day counting. Europe 41 counts calendar days on UTC+0, so the first day ends at 3 am in Turkey; start in the morning to get a full day. Data exits in Poland on every Europe 41 and Europe 33 plan, and all of them can be topped up.

For every Europe 41 and Europe 33 size, including day passes, see our Europe 41 countries page, which also recommends a plan from your trip length.
