Vietnam eSIM: Viettel, VinaPhone or MobiFone? Which Network Your Plan Uses (2026)

October 5, 2026

Vietnam eSIM networks: Viettel, VinaPhone and MobiFone, and which travel eSIM plans connect to each
Most Vietnam travel eSIMs run on VinaPhone. MobiFone comes mostly on regional plans; Viettel only on the six plans that list all three.

Most Vietnam travel eSIMs run on VinaPhone: on 26 October 2026, 42 of the 68 plans covering Vietnam in our catalogue listed VinaPhone, 25 listed MobiFone and 6 listed Viettel. Three of the four Vietnam-only plans use VinaPhone alone and route data through Vietnam, from $11.25 for 20 GB over 30 days. The cheapest Vietnam-only plan, 10 GB for 15 days at $6.75, lists all three networks and routes through Hong Kong, as do five Vietnam Plus plans, from $4.00 for 3 GB.

You read that Viettel has the best signal in the mountains around Sa Pa, or that MobiFone is fastest in Ho Chi Minh City, and you look for a Vietnam eSIM on that network. The plan titles rarely say which network you get, but every plan page lists it. We sorted all 68 plans that cover Vietnam by the Vietnamese networks they name, using our catalogue on 26 October 2026; top-up packs for an eSIM you already have are not counted.

  • VinaPhone: on 42 plans, including all four Vietnam-only plans; 36 plans use VinaPhone alone.
  • MobiFone: on 25 plans: 13 list it alone, 6 with Vietnamobile and 6 with VinaPhone and Viettel.
  • Viettel: on 6 plans, always alongside VinaPhone and MobiFone: five Vietnam Plus plans and the Vietnam-only 10 GB plan.
  • Hotspot: listed as supported on all 68. None is unlimited, and none includes a Vietnamese phone number.

Vietnam’s mobile networks

Vietnam has four mobile network brands that independent testers measure: Viettel, VinaPhone, MobiFone and Vietnamobile. Opensignal’s Vietnam mobile network report scores all four on speed, reliability and coverage, and the leaders differ by category, so check the latest edition rather than a single forum post.

A travel eSIM adds one more condition. It is a roaming connection, so it can only use the Vietnamese networks its provider has agreements with. That list is set by the plan you buy, which is why the network table on the plan page matters more than the brand you have heard of.

The Vietnam-only plans: three with a local IP

Plan Price Per GB Networks Data exits in
10 GB, 15 days $6.75 $0.68 Viettel, VinaPhone, MobiFone Hong Kong
20 GB, 30 days $11.25 $0.56 VinaPhone Vietnam
30 GB, 30 days $14.45 $0.48 VinaPhone Vietnam
50 GB, 30 days $23.00 $0.46 VinaPhone Vietnam

Two details set the three VinaPhone plans apart. Their data exits in Vietnam, so websites see a Vietnamese IP address, while the 10 GB plan and most regional plans exit in Hong Kong, Singapore or the UK. And they start on their first network connection, so install them before you fly but keep the line switched off until you land. The 10 GB plan starts on first data use instead, and it can be topped up; the three VinaPhone plans cannot. Our guide to how a travel eSIM changes your IP address explains when the exit country matters.

Does the network matter for a traveller?

  • In the cities, less than you think. Every plan here lists at least one of the networks independent testers measure nationally, and most of your data will be used in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang or Hoi An.
  • In the mountains and on the coast, two networks help. On a Ha Giang loop or a Mekong Delta boat trip, a plan that lists more than one Vietnamese network lets the phone switch when one signal is weak. Vietnam Plus and the Vietnam-only 10 GB plan list three.
  • Roaming has its own limits. A travel eSIM’s speed also depends on the provider’s roaming agreement and how busy the cell is, so two plans on the same network can feel different.

Pick a plan by trip

Your trip Good fit Networks Price
Vietnam only, up to two weeks Vietnam 10 GB, 15 days Viettel, VinaPhone, MobiFone $6.75
Vietnam only, a month Vietnam 20 GB, 30 days VinaPhone $11.25
Northern loops, want three networks Vietnam Plus 10 GB, 30 days VinaPhone, MobiFone, Viettel $7.80
Vietnam plus Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore or Indonesia Vietnam Plus 20 GB VinaPhone, MobiFone, Viettel $13.00
Wider Asia including Cambodia and Laos Asia 12 Countries 10 GB VinaPhone $9.80

Vietnam Plus covers Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. Check every stop against the plan’s country list before you buy; our guide to multi-country eSIMs shows how.

Vietnam eSIM prices compared

Code eSIM prices were checked on 26 October 2026; Airalo, Ubigi and Holafly prices come from each provider’s own page on 9 October 2026, in US dollars.

Plan Code eSIM Airalo Ubigi Holafly
10 GB, 15 days $6.75 $17.50 Not checked Unlimited only
20 GB, 30 days $11.25 $29.00 Not checked Unlimited only
Unlimited, 7 days Not sold $27.00 Not checked $27.50

Ubigi’s 10 GB plan for 30 days was $12.90, and Airalo’s $18.00. Airalo, Ubigi and Holafly all list VinaPhone (VNPT). Airalo’s and Holafly’s unlimited weeks cost about the same, but Airalo’s slows to 1 Mbps after 3 GB a day. Code eSIM does not sell an unlimited Vietnam plan.

When a different option is better

  • You need a Vietnamese phone number for drivers, hotels or tour operators to call. None of our Vietnam plans includes one; a local SIM from a Vietnamese operator does.
  • You want unlimited data. None of the 68 plans covering Vietnam was unlimited on 26 October 2026; the largest Vietnam-only plan is 50 GB.

Frequently asked questions

Which network is best for tourists in Vietnam?

Independent tests such as Opensignal’s rank Vietnam’s four networks differently by category. On a travel eSIM, the plan decides: most of ours use VinaPhone, and Vietnam Plus and the Vietnam-only 10 GB plan add MobiFone and Viettel. A plan with more than one network helps most in rural and mountain areas.

Does a Vietnam eSIM use Viettel?

Some do. On 26 October 2026, 6 of the 68 plans covering Vietnam in our catalogue listed Viettel, always together with VinaPhone and MobiFone: five Vietnam Plus plans and the Vietnam-only 10 GB plan. The cheapest is Vietnam Plus at $4.00 for 3 GB over 7 days; for Vietnam only, 10 GB for 15 days costs $6.75.

What is the cheapest Vietnam eSIM?

For Vietnam only, 10 GB for 15 days costs $6.75, on Viettel, VinaPhone and MobiFone. Vietnam Plus, which also covers five other Asian countries, costs $4.00 for 3 GB over 7 days, $5.00 for 5 GB over 15 days and $7.80 for 10 GB over 30 days. Per gigabyte, the Vietnam-only 50 GB plan is cheapest at $0.46.

Does a Vietnam eSIM come with a phone number?

Not a Vietnamese one. 65 of the 68 plans covering Vietnam are data-only; the three Global 111 Countries plans come with a French number on Orange, with 15 minutes and 50 texts. You can call and message over apps, and your home number keeps receiving texts on the phone’s other line. For a Vietnamese number, buy a local SIM from a Vietnamese operator.

Can I use hotspot with a Vietnam eSIM?

Yes. All 68 plans covering Vietnam list hotspot as supported. Tethering uses the same allowance, so if you will run a laptop, choose 20 GB or more for a fortnight. The Vietnam-only plans run at full speed with no daily cap.

Will Vietnamese websites see me as in Vietnam?

On the three Vietnam-only VinaPhone plans (20, 30 and 50 GB), yes: their data exits in Vietnam. The Vietnam-only 10 GB plan exits in Hong Kong, and most regional plans covering Vietnam exit in Hong Kong, Singapore or the UK, so websites see that country instead. This matters mainly for services that check your location. Our IP address guide explains when that is worth caring about.

The brand on a Vietnamese SIM card used to be the decision. On a travel eSIM, it comes with the plan, so pick the plan for your route and data, then let the network table confirm the rest.
