Most Mexico travel eSIMs run on AT&T Mexico: in our catalogue, 38 of the 68 plans covering Mexico list AT&T, 31 list Telcel and 21 list Movistar. Movistar’s mobile service uses AT&T’s access network, so the real choice is AT&T or Telcel. The cheapest way to cover Mexico is often not a Mexico-only plan: North America 5 GB for 30 days costs $9.79 and also covers the US and Canada.
Planning a trip to Cancún, Mexico City or Oaxaca, you will hear that Telcel has the widest coverage and that everything else is a compromise. On a travel eSIM, the network comes with the plan, and it is listed on every plan page. We sorted all 68 plans covering Mexico by the Mexican networks they name, using our catalogue on 5 October 2026.
- AT&T: on 38 plans, plus 6 listing “AT&T / Unefon”; 25 plans use AT&T alone, including most Mexico-only plans.
- Telcel: on 31 plans; 12 use Telcel alone, mostly Latin America and Mexico-and-USA plans.
- Movistar: on 21 plans, usually alongside AT&T or Telcel.
- Price: North America plans cost less than Mexico-only plans for the same data, from $9.79 for 5 GB.
Mexico’s mobile networks
Three brands sell mobile service across Mexico: Telcel, AT&T Mexico and Movistar. They do not run three separate radio networks. Telefónica’s own filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission states that AT&T provides Telefónica México with 3G, 4G and 5G capacity under an access agreement extended to 2030 (Telefónica Form 6-K, Q1 2024). So a plan listing “AT&T and Movistar” mostly gives you AT&T’s towers.
Ten plans also list Altan Redes. For independent speed and coverage results, Opensignal publishes a Mexico mobile network report; check the latest edition rather than an old forum thread.

Mexico-only vs North America: the price surprise
| Data | Cheapest Mexico-only plan | North America plan (USA, Canada, Mexico) |
|---|---|---|
| 2-3 GB | $8.19 for 3 GB, 15 days | $8.19 for 3 GB, 30 days; $6.19 for 2 GB |
| 5 GB | $10.60, 15 days | $9.79, 30 days |
| 10 GB | $18.00, 15 days | $15.39, 30 days |
| 20 GB | $32.20, 30 days | $27.59, 30 days |
The eSIMGo North America 5, 10 and 20 GB plans list AT&T and Movistar in Mexico and hotspot as supported, and last 30 days. Unless you specifically want Telcel, they are the better buy, and they cover a stopover in the US too. Day passes for Mexico cost $7.40 for 3 days to $15.39 for 10 days, which is more than the 10 GB North America plan.
If you want Telcel
Telcel appears on a smaller set of plans. Mexico 30 GB for 30 days at $44.16 lists AT&T and Telcel, so the phone can use either, and lists hotspot as supported. Mexico 20 GB has listed AT&T only since 17 October 2026. Latin America 10 GB at $24.84 covers 17 countries on Telcel in Mexico, which suits a trip that continues to Central or South America. Mexico and USA 15 GB at $32.78 also lists Telcel.
Mexico eSIM prices compared
Code eSIM prices were checked on 27 October 2026; Airalo, Ubigi and Holafly prices come from each provider’s own Mexico page on 9 October 2026, in US dollars. The Code eSIM column is the North America plan, which also covers the USA and Canada and costs less than our Mexico-only plans.
| Plan | Code eSIM | Airalo | Ubigi | Holafly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 GB, 30 days | $9.79 | $13.00 | Not checked | Unlimited only |
| 10 GB, 30 days | $15.39 | $18.50 | $24.00 | Unlimited only |
| 20 GB, 30 days | $27.59 | $31.00 | Not checked | Unlimited only |
| 10 GB with 100 minutes, 30 days | Not sold | $26.00, with 100 texts | Not sold | Not sold |
| Unlimited, 7 days | Not sold | $23.50 | Not checked | $24.50 |
| Unlimited, 30 days | Not sold | $62.00 | Not checked | $66.50 |
Ubigi’s Mexico page lists Telcel, Movistar and Altán, and Holafly’s lists Telcel and Movistar; Airalo’s plan page does not name a network. Airalo’s unlimited plans slow to 1 Mbps after 3 GB a day, and Airalo was the only seller here with a Mexican number. Code eSIM sells no unlimited Mexico plan and no plan with a Mexican number.
Already on a US plan? Check before you buy
Many US travellers do not need a Mexico eSIM at all. Verizon says talk, text and data in Canada and Mexico are included with all its Unlimited plans, per its international travel page. Other US carriers have North America features on some plans. If yours does not, or if you are not travelling from the US, our comparison of US carrier roaming and travel eSIMs shows what a day pass costs instead.
Pick a plan by trip
| Your trip | Good fit | Price |
|---|---|---|
| A week in Cancún or Mexico City | North America 5 GB, 30 days | $9.79 |
| Two to four weeks, moderate use | North America 10 GB, 30 days | $15.39 |
| You want Telcel and plenty of data | Mexico 30 GB (AT&T + Telcel) | $44.16 |
| Mexico then Central or South America | Latin America 10 GB | $24.84 |
| Verizon Unlimited customer | Your own plan | Included |
Maps, rideshare apps and messaging use about 500 MB to 1 GB a day, so 10 GB covers one to two weeks; video calls use 1 to 3 GB an hour. Airalo, Ubigi and Holafly prices for the same trips are compared above.
Frequently asked questions
Which network is best for tourists in Mexico?
Independent tests rank Telcel and AT&T differently by category, and Movistar uses AT&T’s access network. On a travel eSIM, the plan decides: most of ours use AT&T, and a smaller set lists Telcel. A plan that lists both, such as Mexico 30 GB at $44.16, lets the phone use either.
Does a Mexico eSIM use Telcel?
Some do. On 5 October 2026, 31 of the 68 plans covering Mexico in our catalogue listed Telcel, including Latin America 10 GB at $24.84 and Mexico and USA 15 GB at $32.78. Most Mexico-only plans, and the cheaper North America plans, use AT&T.
What is the cheapest eSIM for Mexico?
Often a North America plan rather than a Mexico-only one: 5 GB for 30 days costs $9.79 and 10 GB costs $15.39, covering the US and Canada as well. The cheapest Mexico-only plan is 1 GB for 7 days at $4.19.
Is Movistar the same network as AT&T in Mexico?
For mobile access, largely yes. Telefónica’s SEC filing says AT&T provides Telefónica México with 3G, 4G and 5G capacity under an agreement extended to 2030. The two still sell services separately and run their own core networks. Plans that list both mostly connect to the same towers.
Do I need a Mexico eSIM if I have Verizon?
Probably not if you are on a Verizon Unlimited plan: Verizon says Canada and Mexico talk, text and data are included with all its Unlimited plans. Check your plan first. On other plans, a travel eSIM usually costs less than a carrier day pass.
Can I use hotspot with a Mexico eSIM?
On 43 of the 68 plans covering Mexico, yes, including the North America plans and Mexico 20 GB. Several Mexico-only AT&T plans do not state hotspot support, so check the plan page if you need to tether a laptop. Tethering uses the same allowance, so size up.
In Mexico the network question has a short answer: AT&T or Telcel. The bigger saving usually comes from choosing a North America plan over a Mexico-only one.
