Almost every Indonesia travel eSIM uses Telkomsel: in our catalogue it is listed on 75 of the 79 plans covering Indonesia, XL on 58, Smartfren on 22 and Indosat on 18. Every Indonesia-only plan lists at least two networks and supports hotspot, from $3.80 for 1 GB to $7.25 for 10 GB over 30 days. If you want Indosat as well, the Indonesia 15 GB plan lists Telkomsel, XL, Indosat and Tri for $8.75.
Ask on a Bali forum and you will be told Telkomsel works everywhere, XL is cheaper, and Indosat is fine in Seminyak but not on Nusa Penida. Those tips come from people buying local SIM cards at the airport. On a travel eSIM, the networks come with the plan, and every plan page lists them. We sorted all 79 plans covering Indonesia by the Indonesian networks they name, using our catalogue on 11 October 2026.
- Telkomsel: on 75 of 79 plans, including all 14 Indonesia-only plans.
- XL, AXIS and Smartfren: on 58, 2 and 22 plans; all three brands now belong to one company, XLSMART.
- Indosat and Tri: on 18 and 14 plans; both belong to Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison.
- Hotspot: listed as supported on all 79. None is unlimited or includes an Indonesian number.
Indonesia’s networks: three companies, several brands
Indonesia’s mobile market has consolidated into three groups. Telkomsel is one. Indosat and Tri (3) merged into PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, effective 4 January 2022, according to the joint announcement by Ooredoo and CK Hutchison. XL, AXIS and Smartfren are brands of XLSMART, as listed on XLSMART’s own site.
So a plan that lists “Telkomsel, XL and Smartfren” gives you two companies’ networks, not three. For independent speed and coverage results, Opensignal publishes an Indonesia mobile network report; the leaders change between editions.

| 50 GB, 30 days | $27.60 | Telkomsel, XL | Hong Kong |

Does the network matter in Bali?
- Two networks beat one. Every Indonesia-only plan lists at least two companies’ networks, so the phone can switch when one signal is weak, which helps on day trips to the islands or in the hills around Ubud.
- Telkomsel is the constant. It is on every Indonesia-only plan; what differs is the second network.
- Roaming has its own limits. Speed also depends on the provider’s roaming agreement and how busy the cell is, so the same network can feel different on two plans.
Pick a plan by trip

| Want the widest choice of networks | Indonesia 15 GB (four networks) | $8.75 |

Indonesia eSIM prices compared
Code eSIM prices were checked on 26 October 2026; Airalo, Ubigi and Holafly prices come from each provider’s own page on 10 October 2026, in US dollars.
| Plan | Code eSIM | Airalo | Ubigi | Holafly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 GB, 30 days | $6.23 | $13.50 | Not checked | Unlimited only |
| 10 GB, 30 days | $7.25 | $21.00 | $16.00 | Unlimited only |
| Unlimited, 7 days | Not sold | $27.00 | Not checked | $27.50 |
| Unlimited, 30 days | Not sold | $69.00 | Not checked | $76.50 |
Ubigi uses Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, and Holafly lists XL and Telkomsel. Code eSIM’s 5 GB and 10 GB plans use Telkomsel and XL and route data through Hong Kong. For unlimited data, Airalo’s week slows to 1 Mbps after 3 GB a day, and Holafly allows 1 GB of hotspot a day. Code eSIM does not sell an unlimited Indonesia plan.
Frequently asked questions
Which network is best for tourists in Bali?
Independent tests rank Indonesia’s networks differently by category and edition. On a travel eSIM, the plan decides: every Indonesia-only plan in our catalogue uses Telkomsel plus at least one other network, so the phone can switch when a signal is weak, for example on boat trips or in the hills.
Does a Bali eSIM use Telkomsel?
Almost always. On 11 October 2026, 75 of the 79 plans covering Indonesia in our catalogue listed Telkomsel, including all 14 Indonesia-only plans. Each plan page names its networks in the Destinations and networks table, so you can confirm before you buy.
Is there a Bali eSIM on Indosat?
Yes. 18 plans list Indosat. The Indonesia 15 GB plan at $8.75 and the 30 GB plan at $14.05 list Telkomsel, XL, Indosat and Tri together. They start counting when installed, so install them a day or two before you fly.
Are XL and Smartfren the same network now?
They are brands of one company, XLSMART, together with AXIS. So a plan listing Telkomsel, XL and Smartfren connects to two companies’ networks. Indosat and Tri are likewise one company, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, since their merger took effect in January 2022.
What is the cheapest eSIM for Bali?
For a short stay, Indonesia 1 GB for 7 days at $3.80. For most trips, 10 GB for 30 days at $7.25 is better value at $0.73 per GB. Per gigabyte, 30 GB for 30 days at $14.05 is the cheapest Indonesia-only plan, at $0.47.
Can I use hotspot with a Bali eSIM?
Yes. All 79 plans covering Indonesia in our catalogue list hotspot as supported. Tethering a laptop can use several gigabytes a day, so for remote work in Canggu or Ubud, the 30 GB plan at $14.05 leaves more room than the 10 GB plan.
In Bali, the network question mostly answers itself: Telkomsel plus a second network on every Indonesia plan. Choose the plan for your data and trip length, and check the network table if you have a preference.
Last reviewed 11 October 2026; the networks and exit of the 10 GB plan were updated on 17 October 2026 and of the 50 GB plan on 26 October 2026, when each switched from Telkomsel, XL and AXIS with a Singapore exit; no Indonesia plan we sell lists AXIS now. Plan networks, exit locations, activation rules, hotspot terms and prices come from our own catalogue and product pages on that date and change often; product pages are authoritative. Company structure is from the Ooredoo and CK Hutchison announcement and XLSMART’s own site.
